Hillsboro business builds home comforts to order

Staff writer

Chuck Maltbie, who grew up in Marion where his father ran a shop, now owns and operates a Hillsboro business that does home improvements and builds spas.

After starting his own spa-making business in 1993 as Spas and Such 4 U in Salina, Maltbie expanded the business to Tescott and now to Hillsboro, where he bought an existing spa factory in February.

“We create custom tubs and supply all the things you want with them,” Maltbie said.

In 2000, Maltbie rebranded his business as Home Resort.

Besides spas, the company builds decks, does contracting work, and whatever a customer wants to create a place to escape the stresses of life with the comfort of a custom environment.

“I wanted people to understand we did more than spas,” Maltbie said. “We’re creating your home paradise.”

Maltbie said he takes pride in using only American-made products in his work.

“I’m a stickler for that,” he said.

Maltbie’s spas aren’t ordinary cookie-cutter hot tubs. They are set up with stereo systems, Bluetooth connection, LED lighting, USB drives, inner and outer speaker systems, detached steps, matching barstools, or whatever custom features a customer selects.

Instead of merely a few jets in the water, his spas can have an expanded number.
