Hillsboro offers full slate of rec programs

Deadlines to sign up for Hillsboro recreation programs are approaching.

Registration for flag football costs $20 and includes a T-shirt. A $10 late fee is avoidable by signing up before Aug. 30.

Boys and girls will compete together in separate groups for first and second, third and fourth, and fifth and sixth graders at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 25 through Oct. 23, at Hillsboro Sports Complex.

Rec director Doug Sisk is looking for volunteer coaches, each of whom will receive one free registration.

Kids’ dance classes on Monday and Tuesday evenings will begin Sept. 13 at 107 S. Main St.

Monday classes will include a half-hour ballet class for 3- to 5-year-olds at 4:15 p.m., a half-hour movement class for kindergartners through second graders at 5 p.m., a 45-minute cheer and pompon class for kindergartners through fifth graders at 5:45 p.m., and an hour-long ballet class for fifth graders and older students at 6:45 p.m.

A half-hour cardio-dance workout for kids in first grade and older will be offered at 4:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Costs range from $28 to $36.

Gymnastics for kids will be offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting Sept. 8.

Half-hour classes for toddlers will meet at 4 p.m. Mondays. Hour-long classes will be offered at 4:30, 5:30, and (for advanced students) 6:30 p.m. Mondays.

Hour-long fitness classes will offered at 4:45 p.m. Wednesdays, and hour-long cheer and tumbling classes for sixth graders and older students will be offered at 5:45 p.m.

Dance classes for those 16 and older will include 45-minute barre classes at 5 p.m. Tuesdays and cardio classes at 5:45 p.m. Each costs $40. Half-hour classes in adult barre stretching and progressive ballet techniques for adults follow and cost $35.

A two-step couples’ dance party is planned for 6 p.m. Sept. 10, and a $5 hour-long cardio-dance workout is planned for 9 a.m. Sept. 11.

Martial arts classes are available Monday and Thursday evenings. Beginner classes for kids and adults meet at 6 p.m. Advanced classes for adults meet at 7 p.m. Cost is $40 a month.

Beginner and intermediate yoga classes are offered at 8 p.m. Mondays at city hall. Cost is $5 per session for adults, $3 for high school and college students.
