Hillsboro plans Down Home Christmas

Hillsboro’s annual Down Home Christmas will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Events will be spread throughout the city, according to Shana Stepank, office worker at the Chamber of Commerce.
Down Home Christmas, which has been happening for at least seven years, will have more than 30 vendors at several locations
They include the Mennonite Church, Lutheran Church and city hall.
João Sá, a Tabor College student who recently participated in the college’s Side Hustle Challenge, will also take part in the event.

He will either be in the city building, First Mennonite Church or Zion Lutheran Church,
An Escape Room, where participants have to correctly answer questions to get out of the room, will be at City of 23 on S. Main St. from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The culmination of the event will be the city’s tree lighting at 3 p.m. at Grand and Main Sts. Santa will make an appearance.
“He will come down Main St. with a police and fire escort,” Stepank said.
Santa will also be at Professional Property Solutions until 2 p.m. for pictures with Santa. Frames will be provided.
This year the chamber also has a silent auction.
Saturday’s events will start with an American Legion be from 9 to 11 a.m. with the Grinch, and an arts and crafts show for kids from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hillsboro Hardware Store.
From 10 a.m. to noon, an arts and crafts show for all ages will be at the library.
Ten to 20 sponsors from local businesses chipped in, she said.
“We have a lot of people who have helped to make this a successful event,” Stepank said.
