Storms interrupt opener

The 23 sluggers on Hillsboro High School’s baseball team had to interrupt their first game Tuesday because of rain. The opening game of the season was a face-off against Haven.
At the top of the sixth inning, the game was postponed with a score of Hillsboro 3, Haven 2.
The team is made up of Tanner Parks, Hunter Navrat, Mason Schreiber, Colton Gossen, Matthew Potucek, Blane Bernhardt, Alex Caldwell, Zander Haslett, Corbin Marple, Chance Green, Phillip Young, Cade Gossen, Jaxxon Hanschu, Logan Frantz, Leyton Coover, Dawson Boldt, Kael Hutchison, Jake Thiessen, and Dallas Whorton.
Head coach is Clint Potucek and assistant coaches are Jayson Hanschu and Jonathan Richstatter.
The team’s next game will be Tuesday, when the boys square off against Smoky Valley at Lindsborg.
After that, the team will travel to Halstead April 8.
They’ll return to their own field April 12 for a doubleheader against Remington, then face another doubleheader at home April 14 against Larned.
On April 19, they’ll travel to Hoisington for competition there, then back home April 22 to face Nickerson.
On April 29, they’ll travel to Lyons, then return home for a May 6 slugfest against Pratt.
The regular season will wrap up with a May 10 match against Hesston, at Hesston.
Regional playoffs will be May 16 through 19 at a location yet to be announced.
State tournament will be May 26 and 27 at Kansas State University.
