Hofer resigns as coach

Staff writer

After seven years as a coach for the Warriors cross-country team Rebecca Hofer has decided to resign because she wants to spend more time with her kids.

“I have two wonderful little children, and they mean the world to me,” she said. “They are both very young, and they need their mommy. As a result I have resigned as cross-country coach.”

Last year she felt like she was unable to give her children the time they needed and still maintain her coaching responsibilities, she said. The decision to put family first was not an easy one for Hofer because she loved coaching, getting to know, and becoming a part of runners’ lives.

“I have shared tears of laughter and sadness, feelings of disappointment and extreme joy with many of them,” she said. “They all have a special place in my heart.”

Having taught some runners when they were in fourth grade, she has enjoyed watching them grow up.

“Even though I am resigning as coach, I am not leaving,” Hofer said. “I plan to take on the role of ‘annoying fan who cheers way too loud.’”
