Homer Stiller
Homer E. Stiller, 96, formerly of Marion, passed away Feb. 25, 2010, at Asbury Park in Newton, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 30, 1913, in Marion, the son of Alferd “Fred” and Ethel (Pierce) Stiller.
He was a Marion High School graduate in the class of 1932.
He was baptized at the early age of 9, in the E.U.B. Church, which later became Eastmoor United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong member. After finishing Wichita Business College in early 1934, he found employment with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked as a rural mail carrier, retiring after 38 years of service.
He was married to Dorothy Magathan on June 17, 1934, in Marion. To this union was born their only child, Janet. In the early 1990s, he and Dorothy made their home in Newton. She preceded him in death Aug. 14, 1995.
Later he married Hazel (Scrivner) Manring on April 22, 1997, in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dorothy, and two sisters Dorothy Cline and Helen Morrison.
Homer is survived by his wife Hazel Stiller of Newton; daughter Janet and husband Richard Vogel of Clearwater; grandson Randall and wife Nancy Vogel of Clearwater; granddaughter Sandra and husband Scott Kelly of Castle Rock, Colo.; stepson Bernard and wife Sandy Manring of Phoenix, Ariz.; and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.
Interment will be in Marion Cemetery.
The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. today at Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion.
Memorial funds have been established for Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Asbury Park of Newton.
