Hurst benefit collects nearly $3,500

A fundraiser chili and chicken noodle soup supper for Thane Hurst was a success Friday evening at Hillsboro Scout House.

Sponsored by the chapters of Marion/Morris 30280 and McPherson 30306 of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, there were 220 meals served and $3,348 was collected.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will give a $2,000 match to the Hurst family.

Thane is the 15-year-old son of Tim and Ginger Hurst of Hillsboro and a Hillsboro High School sophomore. He was diagnosed with tumors on his spinal cord in May. He has had two surgeries, the last of which successful in removing the benign tumors.

He continues to recover at home. Although the family has health insurance, there are other expenses related to Thane’s illness and recovery.
