Aaron Bura
Services for Ramona native Aaron A. Bura, 99, Emporia, who passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, where he was a faithful member.
The service will be conducted by Pastor Eddie Hosch of the church. A committal service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. that day at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
Aaron Alfred Bura was born Jan, 8, 1923, in Ramona, to Maximilian and Rosie (Luksik) Bura.
He married Mildred Lydia Bahre on Sept. 15, 1946, in McPherson. She passed away Sept. 4, 2010.
Aaron is survived by children Rose Anne Bura of Wichita, Linda Sadowski (and husband Tim) of Emporia, and Dennis Bura (and wife Gwen) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and sister Miriam Riddle of Mesquite, Texas.
Also surviving are grandchildren Stephanie Brening (and husband Jacob) of Cleveland, Tennessee; Aaron Bura (and wife Michelle) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and Sarah Jones (and husband Gary) of Tallassee, Alabama; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Cora, Jude, Tessa, and Willa Brening and Ella Bura, Kimbrel, Elyse, and Jaylah Jones.
Aaron served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a member of the Order of the Purple Heart.
He also was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Sertoma Club, Optimist Club, and Newman Regional Health Auxiliary and Volunteers.
For 26 years, Aaron worked as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring 35 years ago.
Memorials have been established with Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia All-Veterans Memorial, and Sertoma Miniature Train at Soden’s Grove Park.
