Bonnie Schmidt

Funeral service for Bonnie Schmidt, 83, who passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, in Newton, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion.

Pastor John Werner will lead the service. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Marion Cemetery.

Her family will gather with friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.

Bonnie’s life began April 12, 1941, in Marion. Her parents were Ronald and Irene (Herbel) Lucas.

Bonnie graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1959 and went on to work for Gound Motors as bookkeeper.

Bonnie married Robert Schmidt at Our Savior Lutheran. They were married for 62 years.

Once Bonnie’s kids were born, she sold Avon cosmetics and was a homemaker for her family. Later, she took a position as bookkeeper for the Marion County road and bridge department.

When Bonnie wasn’t hard at work or raising her family, she could be found enjoying crossword puzzles and watching “The Price Is Right.”

Bonnie was a very active member in Our Savior Lutheran Church and would assist with its missions group. She also would get together with her graduating classmates for monthly potlucks and conversations.

Most of all, Bonnie loved her family, which included her husband, Robert, of the home; sons Rodney Schmidt of Marion, Troy Schmidt (and wife Eileen) of Marion, and Kevin Schmidt (and wife Sherri) of Clinton, Missouri.

Also surviving are grandchildren Noah Schmidt, Ruby Schmidt, Nikita Branscombe (and husband Charlie), Telisha Brandt (and husband Josh), and Trista Humphrey (and husband Tyler Bone); great-grandchildren Jade Branscombe, Nick Branscombe, Suryna Jones, and Sophia Brandt; sister Darlene Siebert (and husband Richard) of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Irene; sister Delores Stirman (and husband Al), and aunt Shirley Burkholder (and husband Bill).

Contributions in honor of Bonnie may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to Good Shepherd Hospice, Newton.
