Bret O’Dell

Services for Bret O’Dell, 61, who passed away Oct. 18, 2021, at his home in Peabody, were 11 a.m. Thursday at Florence United Methodist Church. Pastor Steve Hysom led the services. Family gathered with friends the evening before at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home in Marion.

Bret’s life began Aug. 25, 1960, in Marion. He was a son of Delvin L. O’Dell and Kathryn Ann (Park) Armstrong.

Bret was a 1978 graduate of Marion High School. He was united in marriage to Randi L. Schoby on Aug. 22, 2005, in La Junta, Colorado.

Bret owned Bret’s Butcher Block and a hardware store in Florence and most recently was a service technician for Propane Central in Wichita. He was active on the Peabody Fire Department, serving for 20 years. Before moving to Peabody, he served on the Florence fire department and emergency medical service from age 18.

Bret also was an avid woodworker and enjoyed camping with friends.

His greatest joy was his family, including wife Randi of Peabody; daughters Megan (and husband Joel) Thomas and Alysha (and husband Alex) Haines, both of Marion; step-daughters Letitia (and husband Jarrod) Fry of Hesston and Toni (and husband Taylor) Oxford of Rincon, Georgia; grandchildren Rylee Thomas, Clayton Thomas, Tessa Haines, Rhett Haines, Luke Haines, Dylan Fry, Dawson Fry, Jackson Fry, Nick Fry, Zoey Fry, Tristan Oxford, Ayrabella Oxford, Ensley Oxford, Zelie Oxford, and Ezra Oxford; his parents Delvin (and wife Mary) O’Dell of Emporia and Kathryn Armstrong of Marion; and sisters Rhonda (and husband Eldon) Hett of Marion and Brenda (and husband Bill) Clouse of Smithville, Missouri.
