Carmen Huson

A celebration of life honoring Marion native Carmen Agnes (Siebert) Huson, who died Dec. 28, 2021, will be Saturday, April 9, 2022, at historic Casa Perea in Corrales, New Mexico.

Carmen was born April 4th, 1938, in Marion to Howard Good and Vera Siebert. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1959 and married Marion alum Laurence Griggs the same year.

They had three children: Mitchell Griggs of Kansas City, Missouri, and Suzanne Salazar and Melissa Busse, both of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Carmen was an enthusiastic elementary school teacher for many years while raising the kids and being head cheerleader for their activities.

In 1984, Carmen met James B. Huson of Kansas City, Missouri, to whom she was married for 37 years until her passing.

They settled in South Florida for 25 years, enjoyed the sun and many friendships, and thankfully survived several hurricanes.

In retirement the Husons moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, to be closer to her family, including daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne and Matt Salazar (plus grandchildren Max and Cady Rutherford and great-granddaughter Acacia Rodriguez) and Melissa and Dan Busse (plus granddaughter Shannon Busse).

Carmen enjoyed her remaining years attending family gatherings and laughing, always sharing her sensational smile.

Along her journey, she remained close with her many lifelong friends and shared fond memories of her beloved Good-Siebert upbringing in Marion, especially daily pies lovingly made by her Grandmother Agnes.

She will be deeply missed by her family, classmates, students, as well as special friends from Marion, Kansas City, Florida and New Mexico.

Memorials may be sent in Carmen’s honor to the New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association via its website, by phone to (800) 272-3900, or by mail to PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
