Dennis Seifert
A celebration of life for Dennis Jonah Seifert, 98, who passed away peacefully Monday, April 14, 2025 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at East Side Baptist Church, 4425 SE 29th St., Topeka.
Relatives will greet friends an hour before the service.
Dennis was born June 16, 1926, in Marion to Jonah and Elma Seifert.
Living in Marion with his parents and three sisters, Vernetta, Anita and Faith, Dennis attended Marion High School and after graduation joined the Navy.
He being discharged as a yeoman 3rd class, he returned to Marion, where he farmed with his parents.
In June, 1948, Dennis married Francis Mehlinger. Two children were born to them — Teresa and Barry.
After Francis’ death, Dennis married Donna Stenzel. Together, they had Brad, Janice, Lisa (deceased) and Melinda.
After their marriage ended, Dennis married Ada Wooster, and Ada’s daughters — Suzie, Linda (deceased), Jane, and Lorrie — became his daughters.
Dennis’ working career included carpentry, farming, and working in the parts departments of Cook Motors and Marion Auto Supply.
Dennis was employed as a welder at Donahue Manufacturing and then worked in its sales department, traveling the U.S. selling agricultural trailers.
Dennis was last employed in the sales department of Wichita Southeast Transit.
He was a gifted mechanic, able to fix most any engine problem before vehicles became computerized.
Dennis was a talented singer. In high school, he was selected to be in both a boy’s choral group and a mixed choral group. He was a soloist at weddings and funerals, sang regularly, and directed the church choir at Strassburg Baptist church.
He loved singing with others whether it was a men’s quartet, men’s chorus, or mixed choir.
He also loved to hunt, bowl, and golf and to travel with Ada in their motor home.
Dennis loved being a member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he was loved and cared for consistently.
One of the things he deeply enjoyed and looked forward to was his weekday coffee and lunch times with his friends at Burger King. His family is deeply grateful for the friendship and care that people showed him.
He enjoyed a long life, and his children look forward to seeing him again in heaven
Dennis is survived by children Teresa (and husband John) Loney, Barry (and wife Joy) Seifert, Brad (and wife Tami) Seifert, Janice, Melinda, Susie (and husband Rick) Johnson, Jane Warkentine (and husband Ron Rumsey), and Lorrie (and husband Mike) Dickey and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
