Ernie Voth
A private memorial service for Ernie James Voth, 94, formerly of Goessel, will be scheduled at the convenience of the family at Homewood retirement community in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, where he made his transition the morning of May 23, 2024.
Born Jan. 27, 1930, to Henry F. and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Voth at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, he was married by Pastor H.B. Schmidt to Rose Flaming on July 20, 1951, at Tabor Mennonite Church.
She survives in Martinsburg. Other survivors are son Jonathan Voth and fiancé Alice Unruh of Kansas; daughter NaDa Shoemaker, wife of Dale Shoemaker of Buffalo Mills; and grandchildren Vanessa Keeler (and Justin) of Wichita, Steven Voth (and Krystal) of Wichita, Angela Ripple (and Tanner) of Bedford, and Cary Shoemaker of Indiana, Pennsylvania, along with great-granddaughter Elsly Ripple.
Daughter Arlyce Delayne, brother Alfred Voth, and sisters Marna Abrahams, Norma Martinez, and Lila Harris preceded him in death.
Ernie was a member of Unity Church of Wichita and attended Quaker meetings in Fishertown, Pennsylvania.
He loved his time of meditation, reading the Bible and other spiritual works. After moving to Homewood, he appreciated prayers with chaplains Jerry McCuller and Jim Neatrear and later with Gentiva Hospice chaplin Guyer.
He was employed by Hesston Corp. for 40 years through several changes of ownership. With his wife, he moved to Buffalo Mills upon retirement.
He enjoyed helping his son-in-law with maple syrup season and spending time with family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking, camping, and canoe trips with friends each year. He loved collecting frogs and community cookbooks he found during travels and loved to bake and cook.
