Jean Bailey

Family will gather with friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion for a memorial service for Jean Eleanor Bailey, 98, Marion, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Advent Health in Overland Park.

Pastor Steve Freeburne will lead the service. Jean will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.

Her life began May 15, 1925, in London, England. Her parents were Mornington and Olive Eleanor (Thake) Tollman.

Jean was united in marriage to Robert Lee Bailey on May 29, 1945, in London. She came to Marion in 1946 and made it her home throughout the rest of her life.

She raised her family here and was well-known and liked by everyone for her caring for other people.

Jean worked at St. Luke Hospital in Marion for 40 years, retiring at age 80.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Jean is survived by her children Bobbi Freeburne (and husband Steve) of Union, Kentucky; Suzanne Legill of Shawnee; and John Bailey (and wife Pauline) of Overland Park, nine grandchildren; and15 great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by her sister, Helen Steindler of Derby. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 1979, and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church in care of Yazel-Megli Funeral Home.
