Joyce Markley
Mass for Joyce Marie (Egan) Markley, 84, who died Aug. 10, 2021, was 11 a.m. Monday with Rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday, both at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, 4910 N. Woodlawn, Bel Aire. Graveside service was at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Caldwell Cemetery, in her hometown of Caldwell.
Born Joyce Marie Metzinger on Dec. 30, 1936, to Henry Herman and Dolores Theresa Metzinger of Caldwell, Joyce was a graduate of Wichita State University and shared her love of children by teaching grade school in Wichita and Topeka.
Later she lived her passion as a writer and playwright, producing many plays around the state. She created the nonprofit organization Signature Exploratory Theatre and Arts, promoting an introduction to and support for local talent.
She used her gift of communication for community involvement and promoting changes she wanted to see.
Joyce often wrote to and about those with whom she shared an immense love and devotion and gratitude.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Markley; her parents, Henry and Dolores; her sister, Mary Frances; her brother, Mark Carroll; a nephew, Aaron Metzinger; and a niece, Charisma Metzinger.
She is survived by daughters Carrie Moore (and husband Jeff) of Kechi and Audrey Heiland (and husband Mike) of Wichita; grandchildren Rhae Ann Burt (and husband Chris), Byron Moore (and wife Monica), and Zach Heiland (and wife Amanda), all of Kansas City, Kansas, and Nick Heiland and Tate Heiland of Wichita; great-granddaughter Maia Tayte Burt; siblings Dolores Ann Brown (and husband Martin), Paul Metzinger (and wife Cheri), Dale Metzinger (and wife Alice), Gloria Meyer (and husband Gene), and Marion Metzinger (and wife Virginia); and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials have been established with Guild Hall Players in care of St. James Episcopal Church, 3750 E Douglas Ave, Wichita KS 67208 and the National Indian Education Association, 1514 P St. Ste B, Washington DC 20005.
