Kenneth Schmidt

A celebration of life for Kenneth R. Schmidt Sr., 93, who left his earthly home June 11, 2022, to be present with the Father in heaven, is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Marion County Lake Hall. All friends and relatives are invited.

Kenneth lived most of his life as a resident of Marion County. He leaves behind friends and family after a short illness.

Kenneth was born Jan. 31, 1929, at the Newton hospital to Dan S. and Susie L. (Jost) Schmidt.

During his youth, he moved with his parents from a farm south of Hillsboro to a farm in the Youngstown area, where he remained until adulthood.

After leaving home, he chose to drive for several trucking companies and drove many years for Donahue Manufacturing. Kenneth also spent more than 10 years at home working for the Marion County road and bridge department while raising his three children, sons Kenneth Jr. and Randy and daughter Yvonne.

Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Accompanied by many friends and his son Ken Jr., he hunted and fished in many locations in Kansas as well as the U.S. and Canada.

His many friends and acquaintances fondly remember stories he liked to share about those adventures.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and by wife Lilly, sister Naomi Baker, and daughter Yvonne Hill.

He is survived by his partner of more than 20 years, Nancy Fee, and by sister Joyce Epstein of Burbank, California; brother Don Schmidt of Wichita; son Kenneth Jr. and wife Alice of Winterville, North Carolina; grandson Ken III and wife Stephanie of Lawrence; step-granddaughter Ronda and husband Marty of Cortez, Colorado; four great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
