Larry Loomis
Services for former Marion resident Larry D. Loomis, 85, of Overland Park, who passed away Jan. 17, 2026, surrounded by his family, were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Relatives gathered with friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion. He was laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.
Larry’s life began Dec.13, 1940, in Beloit. He and his parents, John and Cleo (Wilson) Loomis, lived on a farm near Ionia.
Larry was a 1959 graduate of Jewell High School, where he participated in all sports. He attended Kansas State University, pitching for the Wildcats and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering.
He then moved to Arizona, where he worked for several years as an engineer for various companies.
Most important, while in Phoenix, he met Randee (a “very cute girl,” in his words), a Kansas girl also working in Arizona, when they lived in the same apartment building.
They were united in marriage in 1966 at the Methodist Church in Marysville.
After working in engineering, Larry received a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University and accepted an offer to move back to Kansas and work in banking.
The couple came to Marion after a few years in Wichita and made Marion their home for the next 26 years.
Larry worked as vice president then eventually president of Marion National Bank until his retirement in 2003.
He was an avid golfer and loyal K-State fan. He was the grill master for a K-State tailgating group and a rules official for the Kansas Golf Association, working high school, college, and KGA events.
Larry volunteered at Konza Prairie Biological Station, guiding students and enthusiastically participating in Manhattan Catbackers.
Larry is survived by his loyal, loving wife of almost 60 years, Randee of Overland Park; children Ashley Loomis (and husband Andy Tate) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Brian Loomis (and wife Reina) of Overland Park; grandsons Evan and Colin Loomis; kitties Ebony and Cinder; and sister Donna and brother Jim and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerry and Jack.
Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be directed to the Kansas State University Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
