Lonnie Bartel
A celebration-of-life memorial service for Lonnie E Bartel, 61, of Iowa City, Iowa, who passed away May 18, 2024, after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the church.
Lonnie was born Nov. 21, 1962, the last of four children to Eldon and Ethel Bartel of Hillsboro.
He graduated in 1983 from Hesston College with an associate degree in aviation. He spent his entire career flying, the last 26 years with United Airlines.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Julia (Wyse) Bartel, and daughters Linea Rochford (and husband Nick) of Iowa City; Hannah Randall (and husband Alan) of Eagle, Colorado; and Amanda Gunnink (and husband Zeke) of Iowa City.
Also surviving are grandchildren Elsa and Kit Rochford; sister-in-law Darlene Bartel of Hillsboro; brother Lynn Bartel (and wife Fran) of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister Ellen Patry (and husband Don) of Bel Aire; in-laws Alice and Gene Wyse of Wayland, Iowa; sister-in-law Jodi Wyse Woline (and husband Allan) of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; and six nephews and two nieces.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daryl Bartel of Hillsboro, and brother-in-law Curt Wyse of Mount Pleasant.
