Max Ewert

A memorial service for Harold “Max” Ewert, 79, who passed away March 15, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, was Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Marion Presbyterian Church with pastor Jeremiah Lange presiding.

Max was born April 4, 1942, in Marion to Harold and Doris Ewert.

He spent most of his life working as a carpenter. In addition to woodworking, he enjoyed many hobbies, which kept him active over the years – fishing, camping, water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, hunting, and model trains.

Although he loved his Kansas roots, he had a passion for the mountains. He moved his family to Gunnison, Colorado, where he resided for over 30 years.

While in Gunnison, Max was instrumental in establishing the booster club for Gunnison High School as well as Project Graduation. He also built a cabin in Tin Cup, Colorado, that he and his family enjoyed for many years.

He was of the Christian faith – being an active member of various church families throughout his entire life.

He most recently attended Community Church at Gunnison, Colorado, where he was active in the Hoodlum Lunch program ministering to area teen boys, and Marion Presbyterian Church at Marion.

On Sept. 1, 1963, he married Gerri Schultz in Newton. She survives.

Other survivors include daughters Cindi Smith (and husband Troy) of Larned and Kristi Moneypenny (and husband Mark) of Milford; sister Donna Hajek (and husband Jerome) of Marion, brothers Gene Ewert (and wife Kathy) of Neodesha and Gary Ewert (and wife Elaine) of Marion, grandchildren Hannah and Erin Smith and Ethan and Kayli Moneypenny, several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne Ewert, and grandson Evan Moneypenny.

Memorials may be given to the Marion Presbyterian Church or Marion High School Parent Advisory County in care of Traci Helmer at Tampa State Bank.
