Norman Claassen

Services for Norman Wayne Claassen, who passed away March 7 at Peabody Health and Rehab, will be 2 p.m. April 27 at Aulne Church.

Norman was born March 9, 1940, to Walter and Marie “Jackson” Claassen on a farm south of Whitewater.

The family moved to DeGraff, and Norm attended high school in Burns. He graduated in 1958 and served two years in the Army.

He married Judy Mickey in 1965. She survives.

Norm worked in farming, ranching, and dairying. In 1977, the family moved to Colorado, where he started working in construction and woodworking. While there the family spent lots of time in the mountains, camping and trail riding with friends. That’s where he built his log cabin.

In 1992, they moved back to Peabody, where he and son Rick ventured into the horse business. His passion was being on horseback with relatives and friends. He also could be seen patrolling the streets on his red four-wheeler.

As his health declined, he and Judy moved to a smaller home in Florence.

For the last two months, he had been a resident of Peabody Health and Rehab.

Norman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy; daughters Jody (and husband Dave) Rempel and Joanna Munson, both of Peabody; sons Frank of Aurora, Colorado, and Rick (and wife Lisa Buck) of Burns; sister Eileen (and husband Bob) Knaussman of Emporia; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jean Krehbiel; and granddaughter Holly Unruh.

Memorials have been established with Aulne Church outreach ministries, Aulne Church youth ministries, and John McKay American Legion in Florence.
