He passed away June 27, 2026, surrounded by his family at St Luke Living Center in Marion.

Roger started his life on Easter weekend, April 11, 1936, at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. He was born to Glenn and Etta (Druse) Richmond and was the oldest of four children.

Together with his siblings, they were raised on his family’s farm just north of Aulne.

He attended Dickinson and Aulne country schools and graduated from Marion High School in 1954.

He served his country with the U.S. Army, from 1958 to 1962 and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He returned home to farm after the death of his father.

On Jan. 10, 1969, he was united in marriage to Betty Tipton. Together they started their married life farming and raising livestock. The couple have one daughter, Keri Helmer.

Roger was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sports his entire life, from learning to play baseball from his Uncle Ernie and cousins to playing baseball and football in high school.

In later years, his favorite sports teams included the Chiefs, the Royals, KU and K-State. He always had a couple of hats for each team!

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Keri and her husband, Charlie Helmer, of Haven; grandsons Randon and Ripley; as well as his sisters, Bonnie Stage and her husband, Jerry, of Olathe and Judy Grentz of McPherson.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Etta Richmond, and his brother, Ray Richmond.

A memorial fund has been established for St. Luke Hospital and Living Center in care of Jost Funeral Home.
