Sonja Vogel

A come-and-go gathering 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at her home will celebrate the life Sonja Marie Vogel, 83, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Jan. 15, 2024, at her home in Chanute.

The family invites all who knew and loved Momma V to join them on this day of remembrance.

Sonja was born on Oct. 5, 1940, to Lyle and Esther (Bredemeier) Sanders. She was a beloved member of her community and was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Roland Vogel, to whom she was united in marriage Sept. 13, 1959, in Marion.

Sonja will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests. She had a passion for collecting cookbooks and enjoyed camping. Sonja was an avid fan of the Chiefs and Jayhawks.

Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies and great-grandbabies.

Sonja is survived by her children, Douglas Vogel (and wife Jennifer) of Chanute and Debbie Finley (and husband Greg). She also is survived by brother Harvey Sanders (and wife Betty) of Marion and sister Frances Sanders of Newton.

Sonja’s memory will be carried on by her grandchildren: Eric Vogel (and wife Niccole), Larry Finley (and wife Abbey), Holly Olson (and husband Tray), Denton Decker (and wife Chelsie), and Danae Decker (and husband Jeff).

Additionally, she will be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Radlee, Bowen, Atlas, Keely, Emrie, Saint, and Ellasyn.

Sonja also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Sonja graduated from Marion High School in 1959.

Throughout her career, she worked at JCPenney and First National Bank and retired from Home Savings Bank.

Sonja also served as treasurer of Soupline for several years, demonstrating her dedication to her community. She was a member of WOW Ladies.

Memorials to Harry Hynes Hospice are suggested and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Services are under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 N. Forest St., Chanute.

Sonja Marie Vogel forever will be remembered for her loving nature, zest for life, and devotion to her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
