Injured rider gets $2 million

Staff writer

Two Wichita residents who did not respond to a lawsuit were each ordered Nov. 2 to pay $1 million to a man injured in an April 12 wreck on US-50.

Rakesh Davis sued both Lakisha Reed, driver of a car that crashed into a tow truck a quarter of a mile from Mustang Rd., and De Quincy Sanders, owner of the car.

Davis was a passenger in the car he was driving.

He claimed in his suit, filed Aug. 12, that Reed drove with a suspended license at high speed, swerving in and out of oncoming traffic.

He also claimed Sanders was negligent in allowing Reed to illegally drive the car.

Reed, Davis, and another passenger, Tiffany Mayson, were injured and taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The tow truck driver, Joel Hayes of Florence, was not injured.

Two helicopters and an ambulance initially were dispatched to treat victims, but the helicopters were delayed by high wind gusts of u and ultimately canceled.

Traffic on US-50 was backed up to Peabody while the injured driver and passengers were treated.
