Our beloved mother, Irene Humphries, went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2011, at the age of 89, in Augusta, Kansas.
She was born to Wendell and Dorothy Seibert on March 18, 1922 in Vesper, Kansas and was the oldest of three daughters. She was married to her late husband, Edwin Humphries for 52 years. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Irene attended school in El Dorado, Kansas, where she lived until 1970. In her later years, she called Florence, Kansas, her home until she moved to Lake Point in Augusta in 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Wood of Florence, Ariz., son Ronnie Humphries of Leedy, Okla., sisters Doris Higgs of Augusta, Madonna Seymore of Leon, and her “special” sister-in-law, who never left her side, Velma Thornton of Leon. Irene is also survived by her grandchildren, Jill Kurcharski of Peckville, Pa., Paul Swanson of Mesa, Ariz., Mark Swanson of Hemet, Calif., and Phillip Humphries of Haysville. She was proud to say she had 10 great-grandchildren.
Irene was a sweet, gentle person who will be missed by all those who loved her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Baker’s Funeral Home. A private inurnment will be held at a later time.
