Janice Case

A celebration of life for Janice Marilyn Socolofsky Case, 96, who died Nov. 20, 2025, in Overland Park, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at Marion Presbyterian Church.

She was born Oct. 26, 1929. in Marion to Ella V. Popp and Alex Socolofsky. She was the youngest of five sisters.

Janice graduated from Marion High School in 1947 and attended Emporia State for three years.

She married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life and best friend, Rosse Braddock Case, on June 12, 1949.

Rosse and Janice had three children: a daughter, Tamara, followed by a son, Rosse Braddock “Brad” II, and a daughter, Teresa.

Janice was a very active and involved citizen in the Marion community.

She was a member of the Marion Presbyterian Church, serving on the session, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir for many years, and helping with various committees.

She was a member and past president of PEO. She was active in Girl Scouts, serving as neighborhood chair. She also was a member of the library board, the St. Luke Hospital Foundation board, the city parks board, American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary.

Janice and Rosse enjoyed playing bridge and participated in several bridge clubs. They also enjoyed attending most local sporting events.

Both lived in Marion for the majority of their lives until moving to Overland Park in January 2015 to be closer to family.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, and her sisters: Jean, June, Jane, and Joy.

She is survived by her daughters and her children’s spouses: Tammy and J.L. Stone, William McMechen, and Teresa and Joe Nielsen, as well as her grandchildren: Lory Stone and Iván Marín-Soler, Lisa and Chris Licause, Haley and Jeremy Patnaude, Hannah and David Carlson, and Abby Nielsen; and her great-grandchildren: Alex Licause, Ben Licause, Lillian Janice Marín, Ross Marín, Chloe Carlson, Owen Carlson, and Miles Patnaude.

Janice was well-known as a kind and loving person whose enthusiasm for life was contagious. She always had a smile on her face, and she easily made friends, rarely forgetting a name.

She cared deeply for others and enjoyed sending out cards, remembering birthdays, special holidays, and events. She loved her community, her friends, and, most of all, her family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Presbyterian Church, St. Luke Hospital, the Marion City Library, or the Marion Historical Museum.
