Jim Vainer

Services for James “Jim” J. Vainer, 84, who passed away Friday at Via Christi St Francis Campus in Wichita, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend.

He was born July 23, 1936, in Hillsboro, the son of Joseph and Elsie Krch Vainer. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Pflieger on Nov. 5, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salina.

He had been a resident of Great Bend since 1971, coming from Concordia. He had been in the glass profession for more than 63 years, working at PPG as a sales rep, part owner of Jimlo and part time as an advisor for Quality Glass.

His love of life was the farm and being outdoors, including hunting, fishing, boating, and later 4-wheeling and riding his gator. Jim loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home; two sons, David Vainer and wife Pam and John and wife Lori, all of Great Bend; daughter Deborah Quinn and husband Jim of Dover, Del.; sister Virginia Means of Napa, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Matt, Megan, Kylie, Dalton, Katlin, and Aron; and seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Olivia, Valerie, Blair, Ethan, Kennedie and Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a Vigil at 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North.

Memorials have been suggested to Father Kapaun or Prince of Peace Parish, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
