Joan Thompson

Former Western Associates employee Joan B. Thompson, 84, of Cedar Point died Saturday at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Services were to be at 10 a.m. today at Elmdale United Methodist Church.

She was born July 28, 1929, in Emporia to Robert and Grace Smith Bartlett.

She was a teacher for more than 25 years, teaching at Cedar Point schools and Chase County Middle School. She also worked for Western Associates.

She married Dean Thompson on June 13, 1954, in Madison. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Survivors include her son, Wayne of Merrit Island, Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Sprague of Eureka; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday at Elmdale United Methodist Church. A memorial fund has been established with the church. Interment will be at Cedar Point Cemetery.
