Jon Dale Soyez

Jon Dale Soyez, 74, of Newton died May 7, 2012, at Newton Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Marion to Emile and Grace (Sampson) Soyez. He was the eighth of eight children.

He married Marlis Ellen Montgomery Patterson on Dec. 21, 1956, in Andover. She preceded him in death. He married Teresa Maxine Decker-Saylor on March 5, 1987, in Newton. She survives of the home.

He was a car foreman for the Santa Fe and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads. His interests included gardening, guns, bowling, and fishing. He was a handyman and helped neighbors and friends often. He enjoyed helping on the farm and loved dogs and cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Grace Soyez; and all seven of his siblings, Lloyd, Richard, Emile Jr., Louise, Vida, Cecelia, and LuEtta.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa M. Soyez; three sons, Marty Soyez of Newton, Bret Soyez of Canton, Shane Saylor of Wichita; a daughter, Joni Lowenstein of Parker, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Visitation was Friday at Petersen Funeral Home.
