Jona Baltzer

Jona H. Baltzer, 89, a farmer, vocal music instructor, church musician, and for nine years director of the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus, died Saturday at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Wally Kroeker and the Rev. Daryle Baltzer of Wichita will officiate.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 tonight at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

Born Nov. 4, 1924, in Hillsboro to John P. and Amanda (Funk) Baltzer, Jona Baltzer married Mary Louise Eitzen on Oct. 30, 1947, in Hillsboro. She died March 26.

Survivors include a son, Doug Baltzer of rural Lehigh; a daughter, Carol Janzen of Enid, Oklahoma; a sister, Orpha Klassen of Reedley, California; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with the Mennonite Central Committee and Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus.
