Kenneth H. Schwendiman was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Marion, the son of Wesley and Pauline Schwendiman. He attended Canada Grade School and Marion schools.
During World War II, he served with the United States Marine Corps and saw action in Guam and the Marianas Islands.
After his discharge from the service, he returned to Marion. On March 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to Tillie Reiswig. Three sons were born to this union, Mike, Rick, and Jay.
Kenneth’s occupations included farming and oil field work along with some other endeavors.
He was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church of Marion, a life member of the VFW, and past district commander.
He remained a Marion resident all of his life until the past couple of years when he moved to Salem Home in Hillsboro. He passed away while living there Jan. 6, 2011, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his wife, Tillie, of Marion; three sons, Mike and Jay of Marion and Rick of Thomasville, N.C.; a sister, Darlene Tinberg of Overland Park; and three grandchildren, Trevor, Kyle, and Hannah.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.
A committal service will follow at Marion Cemetery with military rites.
A memorial has been established with the church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion.
