Kids play chicken with train

BNSF Railway is investigating an incident in which a few kids played chicken with a train coming at them in Peabody.
Three kids came very close to being hit by a train, according to Police Chief Matthew Neal.
They were not hit only because the train conductor was able to see them standing on the tracks and had enough time to slam on the brakes.
“He was really shaken up on almost hitting the kids,” Neal said.
Playing chicken with a train goes way beyond kids just being kids, he said.
“This was pretty close to being a full disaster,” Neal said.
The sheriff’s office was contacted by the railroad last month. Neal has been assisting in the investigation.
All information, including video provided by BNSF, has been turned over to investigators.
The three juveniles, who fled the location, appear to be in their early teens, Neal said.
