Kids talk turkey: From cooking to being thankful

Psssst. Pass it on: If a Goessel fourth-grader named Lydia invites you over on Thanksgiving, don’t eat the turkey.

Lydia penned a pretty interesting entry in our call for how to cook a turkey, which she rellabeled how not to cook a turkey.

“First you cook it over a fire for five days. Then you thaw it in a frozen river because its hurt. But then it gets to cold so you put it in the oven for three hours. It explodes so you have glue it back together.

“When you serve it for dinner, it’s so gross everyone gets heart attacks and are rushed to the hospital.” Lydia was just one student who answered our call for turkey tales.

A few students researched recipes for cooking a turkey.

“These are the things that you need to make a turkey,” Peabody fourth-grader Wyatt said. “First get a turkey.”

You’ll also need a meat thermometer, carving knife, pan with a tray, onion, lemon, celery, butter, herbs, salt, and pepper.

How much? We don’t know.

Delilah, also a Peabody fourth-grader, said to “preheat the oven to 350 degrees F; discord the brine mixture, then cut it and enjoy. I researched this.”

Other students opted to share what they’re thankful for this year.

Marion kindergartner Landry listed “Ironman” first. Papa, Mommy, and Daddy appeared later on his list.

Peabody first-grader Bennett melded the two “assignments” with “I am thankful for my turkey.”

I am thankful for my family, animals, houses, food, teachers, school, stuff animals, god, and life! You are probily thankful for something or a lot of things. I am also thankful for faith and love. Because if there was no love it would just be sad. And if there was no fun it would just be boring.
