Kris Hayes

Kris S. Hayes, 60, of Newton, died March 11.

Born Feb. 16, 1951, in Topeka, to Ed and Ethel (Kaufman) Helmer, she grew up in Burns and graduated from Peabody High School in 1969. She attended Southwestern College and later received a degree from Vernon’s School of Cosmetology in 1971.

On March 28, 1975, she married Donald W. Hayes. They divorced. Later she married James L. York.

She was a hair stylist for more than 40 years and a member of Burns United Methodist Church.

Her husband, James York, and her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Patrick Hayes, of Olathe; two brothers, Burt of Andover and Kevin of El Dorado; a sister, Julie Morrison of Newton; and two grandsons.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Center Cemetery, rural Burns.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kris Hayes Memorial Fund in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton KS 67114.
