Labor Day weekend is big in Florence

The 74th annual Florence Labor Day weekend celebration had good crowds and nice weather. The only hiccup was a downpour at the end of the street dance on Saturday.

This year’s main event on Saturday was “It’s Magic,” a magic and comedy performance by T.A. Hamilton. From mind reading to the guillotine, he left the audience laughing.

Sunday featured events for children — sidewalk chalk art contest, bike decorating contest, and YCAT art fun.

The annual Labor Day parade on Monday featured floats with the theme “Celebrating Kansas’ 150th Birthday.”

This year’s button winner was Douglas Edwards. The prize this year was $150 in honor of Kansas’ 150th birthday.
