Lady Cougars finish 0-3 at Herington

Staff writer

Saturday proved to be another tough day for the Centre volleyball team, as they failed to advance out of pool play at an invitational tournament at Herington.

After being swamped by Rural Vista, 6-25 and 7-25, they lost to Canton-Galva, 26-24, 20-25, and 15-25.

After winning the first game against Council Grove, 25-22, the Lady Cougars played neck and neck with the Braves in the second but couldn’t quite pull off a win. They lost, 25-27, requiring a third game. Their play fell flat, and they lost, 8-25.

Against Council Grove, Alyssa Espinoza served for nine points and Emma David and Samantha Espinoza, six points each.

Setters all had a perfect match. Deines led in spikes, with 17 of 17 and three kills. The Espinoza twins had five blocks each.

The girls got their second win of the season earlier in the week at Peabody. They defeated Peabody-Burns in two sets and lost to Rural Vista in two.
