At a triangular played Sept. 11 at Solomon, the Centre High School volleyball team supported their coach’s assertion that they will finish the season at or near the top of the Wheat State League. They won two easy victories over league rivals, including the host team, 25-9 and 25-14, and Hope, 25-12 and 25-12.
Brenna Shields served for 17 points against Solomon. She had 4 aces. Genesis Rudolph and Shelby Makovec set the ball perfectly in 32 total attempts.
Anna Weber led at the net with 13 spikes, 9 kills, and 1 block. Cacey Simons and Beka Basore each had 5 blocks.
Against Hope, Shields served for 14 points. Weber had 17 spikes and Basore had 10, with 4 kills and 6 blocks. Makenzie Deines had 5 blocks, and Ellie Miller and Simons had 4 each.
Marion tournament
Centre finished the Marion tournament Saturday with two losses and one win in pool play. According to scoring statistics, they were competitive in every game.
Berean Academy defeated Centre, 25-19 and 25-21, in the first match. Leading the way at the net were Weber, Brianna Svoboda, and Basore, who combined for 33 spikes and 13 kills. Basore had 4 blocks, and Miller had 3. Simons served for 8 points. Rudolph and Shelby Makovec did a perfect job of setting the ball.
Sedgwick defeated Centre, 25-20 and 25-20, in the second match. Rudolph served for 8 points. Weber had 17 spikes, 4 kills, and 1 block. Simons was 5-of-5 in spike attempts and had 9 blocks.
The winning match against Lyons came in three games, 18-25, 25-19, and 25-22. Simons served for 8 points and had 12 blocks. Weber and Svoboda each had 12 spikes. Weber had 6 kills and Basore had 5.
After failing to advance out of pool play, the Lady Cougars played a bonus match against Eureka and won, 25-20, 21-15, and 25-21. Weber served for 11 points and had 30 spikes and 11 kills. Miller and Simons had 6 blocks, and Basore had 5.
The team’s record is 7-8 on the season.
Centre Junior High School
In a home triangular Thursday, the junior high volleyball team defeated Elyria, 25-17 and 25-11, and Little River, 25-23 and 25-14. They are 4-0 on the season.
