Lady Warriors win 1st game of Centre tournament

Staff writer

After a slow start Tuesday night against Wakefield High School, the Marion High School girls’ basketball team rebounded, coasting to a 47-32 victory.

The game was Marion’s first of the Centre Cougar Classic tournament, which they entered as the No. 3 seed. Friday they will play the winner of the matchup between Rural Vista and Peabody-Burns.

The Lady Warriors trailed the Bombers 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, but a 21-point outburst in the second pushed Marion ahead for what would remain of the game.

Kelli Hess scored nine of the Warriors’ second-quarter points, followed by Bailey Robson with five of her own. Marion led 31-18 at halftime.

Neither team made much of an impact on the score out of the break, but Wakefield managed to outscore Marion 7-6, aided by a 3-point shot by Siarra Taylor. Katey Ehrlich scored four points for the Lady Warriors, followed by two from Hess.

Leading 37-25 in the fourth quarter, Marion maintained its lead, winning 47-32.

Scoring

Ehrlich, 14; Robson, 7; Julia Hall, 4; Hess, 15; Megan Richmond, 1; Kaelyn Thierolf, 6.
