LaVern Liebelt

LaVern Liebelt, 85, Harvey, N.D., died Sept. 2 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey.

Born Feb. 24, 1925, on a family farm southwest of Harvey, to Gust and Josephine (Winter) Liebelt, he attended Fairview Township rural school.

He began farming in 1945 south of Anamoose.

He married Eunice Seibel on May 24, 1946, in Hillsboro. The family moved to a farm southwest of Harvey in 1951.

LaVern and Eunice had four children: Paulette, LaMont, Randy, and Londa. Eunice died June 4, 1971.

LaVern married Esther Thorpe on Jan. 16, 1972, at the Raugust farmstead southwest of Harvey. Esther died March 24, 2003.

He then married Ruby Lang on Oct. 26, 2003, in Harvey. Ruby died Nov. 10, 2005.

His parents; a sister, Bernice Hovland; and a grandson, Brad Bokovoy, also preceded him.

LaVern is survived by two daughters, Paulette Freeman of Omaha, Neb., and Londa Bentz of Bismarck, N.D.; two sons, Randy of Satanta and LaMont of International Falls, Minn.; a sister, Elaine Leppke of Hillsboro; a brother, Merle of Modesto, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at First Lutheran Church of Harvey. Burial was in Country Mennonite Cemetery, Harvey.
