Lee Nuss

Services for Hillsboro native Leland (Lee) Wayne Nuss, 91, of Newton, who died Friday, were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, where he was a baptized member.

Born Oct. 19, 1930, in Hillsboro to Charles and Anna (Matz) Nuss, he spent most of his childhood on a farm at Waldeck attended school in Lehigh, where he was a member of a state championship basketball team, and graduated from Hillsboro High School.

A farmer and cattleman most of his life, he later worked for American Milk Producers Inc. in Hillsboro and drove a bus for Hesston schools.

In September of 1958, he married Patricia Jost. She survives at home in Newton. Other survivors include son Dale Nuss of Hillsboro, daughters Elaine VanBuskirk of Prairie Village and Jan Knobel of Lenexa, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandsons.

Brother Allen Nuss and a stillborn daughter preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established with the church.
