Legislator visits Kiwanis
Marion Kiwanis Club’s meeting Tuesday was packed to capacity with 21 club members and six guests.
State Rep. John E. Barker and Judge Steven Hornbaker visited the club. Barker gave legislative newsletters to the club and answered a few questions.
Casey Case presented a thank-you card from his mother, Jean Case, who the club recognized as the Marion super-fan of the year at the athletic awards in May.
Chingawassa Days committee member Tammy Ensey told the club about new events at this year’s festival. A mother with young children herself, Ensey said her focus was on adding activities for children, including a treasure hunt, carnival games, a bike decorating contest and races. Other new events include inflatable jousting, volleyball and video-game tournaments, a hot dog eating contest, dodge ball, a water balloon fight, and karaoke.
Ensey said that if Friday’s events are threatened by rain, they will be moved indoors. A decision should be made by noon, she said. The weather forecast does call for storms during the weekend.
