Leona Riffel

Leona E. Riffel, 82, of Herington, died April 3 at Medicalodges of Herington.

Born Feb. 21, 1928, in Ramona, to Gustave and Minnie Elizabeth (Kuether) Hamm, she was a homemaker and a nurse’s aide at Lutheran Home.

She graduated from Ramona High School in 1946.

She married Elmer C. Riffel March 30, 1947. The couple owned and operated White City Locker Plant in White City before moving to Herington. He died Aug. 9, 1983. Two sisters, Marilyn Backhus and Evelyn Platz; a brother, Harold Hamm; and her parents also preceded her.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington.

Survivors include a son, Doug of Woodbine; a sister, Marjorie Erickson; and two grandsons.

Services were today at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Troy Slater officiating.

Burial followed at Lewis Cemetery, Ramona.

A memorial fund has been established with Dialysis Association in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S Broadway St, Herington KS 67449-3038.
