Canceled craft show

To the editor:

If Marion City Council is worried about its budget woes then its decision to cancel September’s arts and craft show doesn’t show it.

I am sure the cancellation of Chingawasa Days hurt the city’s budget. That was probably a large amount of its projected income.

And now, they are going to remove expected income from the arts and crafts show. The city of Marion will be really short on needed money to care for its citizens.

COVID-19 has already hurt small businesses of this county, which in turn denies the city tax revenue.

I am so sad and mad over this decision. For a lot of us crafters this will be a big blow to our financial situations. So many people rely on the craft shows to help support them.

Craft shows can be the main income, or the little extra money that these people count on making every year. This will also be a huge financial blow to the city and county. I’m sure the money made from the arts and crafts show goes a long way toward helping Marion residents.

There is no reason why this show couldn’t have been handled the same way as when everyone is allowed to go to Walmart or the other big box stores.

City council, please reconsider your decision. You are hurting many more people than what you think you may be saving!

Let the people choose for themselves.
