Like a business?
To the editor:
I keep hearing that we need to run government like a business.
Generally, a business is all about the bottom line without concern for effects it has on people.
A businessperson does not care whether you have money to keep a roof over your head or food on your table.
A businessperson does not care whether you get medical care you need.
A businessperson is out to make the almighty dollar without concern for the people it may affect.
A businessperson’s only concern is the bottom line and how much money he or she can accumulate.
A public company cares only about profits it can generate for stockholders and how much money it can put into the pockets of CEOs, CFOs, COOs, etc.
A democracy should be run for the benefit of the people and their needs.
A democracy is formed to make sure people have things they need, and everyone is treated equally.
A democracy does not see color of skin, sexual orientation, male or female.
A democracy sees people. It creates peace, not chaos or ill will. It does not berate rivals and name-call anyone who does not agree with or do leaders’ bidding.
A democracy cares about neighbors, whether it is the family next door, the next city or town, the next township, the next county, the next state, or the next country.
What is happening in our government is unprecedented and unconstitutional.
It is all about revenge and finding a way to gain as much power and wealth as possible.
It is about intimidation and control of everyone and everything.
Forget checks and balances that have been put in place to protect our democracy. It is about doing whatever you want, even if it is breaking the law.
It is about putting fear into everyone, by any means possible, that government could hurt or stop you.
It is about creating as much chaos as possible to distract from unconstitutional and unlawful happenings being carried out behind the scenes.
It’s time we see the forest and the trees, that we see truth through lies. It’s time we stand up to what’s right and end what’s wrong. It’s time to erase fear and create good again.
We have lost our way. It’s time to join together, get back on the right path, and once again be proud of our democracy.
