To the editor:
With access to two major highways — U.S. 77 and 50 — why don’t we take advantage of an ideal location — use one of the city-owned commercial-zoned lots close to U.S. 56. Run several truck-size cement slabs. Provide electrical hookups. Start smart and enlarge if the idea works.
We need people and because of Marion’s location, truck parking could encourage truckers to move families here. Create an industry without much cost. We even have a truck wash nearby.
Advantages of living in Marion are:
1. An over-supply of medium-priced housing.
2. First-rate sports complex with a new gym, swimming pool, and excellent track turf.
3. State-of-the-art entertainment center — USD 408 Performing Arts Center.
4. Remodeled hospital with state-of-the-art equipment.
5. Meeting center in the city building for large group meetings.
6. Historic Elgin Hotel Bed and Breakfast for small meetings.
7. Nine-hole golf course and pool.
8. Two lakes — one with a heated fishing dock.
9. Unique city park with picnic facilities and historic spring.
10. Airport with welcome center and phone.
11. Create a friendly environment, a positive position.
We need to pull in the same direction and make things happen soon. We need families for the hospital and school district.
