To the editor:
I have watched in fascination and admiration the bizarre events surrounding your newspaper since they hit the national news.
The importance of the legal issues prompted me to subscribe to the Record in support of the paper. I’ve turned into a faithful reader, cover to cover every Wednesday. I’m a journalism fan girl, and nothing is better than a local newspaper.
This past week, the breaking news in Marion hit the “Holy moly!” category, and I’m prompted to write.
Bravo to you and your staff for continuing to air all the facts about what appears to be misdeeds by a number of Marion officials, the latest being the county attorney.
Carry on in bringing daylight about people who have no business in local politics, most likely because of their ignorance and self-service. Your reporting is important to your community and an example for all local newspapers.
The real reason for this letter is to send thanks and best wishes to reporter Deb Gruver. I was sad to hear she was experiencing health issues and was compelled to resign.
Both Ms. Gruver and reporter Phyllis Zorn are brave journalists. I’ve read their articles with admiration and gratitude, thinking “You go, girls!”
Let them know support runs much farther than the Kansas state line.
Thank you and thanks to all your staff.
