Not a ‘freeloader’
To the editor:
Reading your editorial “Doing a number on the media” was a bucket of cold water over my head. I needed the specifics of your economic reality to wake me up.
As one who likes to hold your newspaper in my hand rather than read it online, I am a freeloader — a drag on your bottom line.
I consider the Marion County Record a small gem. I like to think that somehow my subscription helps to sustain it even as many other local newspapers are disappearing.
The reality that your editor, Eric Meyer, works without pay while inspiring is also troubling. After publishing for 156 years who would he there to pick up such a job without a paycheck? What happens after Meyer is not there?
To escape the “freeloader” label, I am offering a supplement to my subscription payment. My conscience requires it.
