Taxing patience

To the editor:

Mayor Mike Powers of Marion recently “whined” to taxpayers that a lack of public meetings to assist in shaping the city’s budget — as he had promised to do last year — was “just kind of is what it is.”

I have to wonder whether that excuse would have been able to sway a jury of a defendant’s innocence in retired judge Powers’ courtroom. Probably not!

Instead of the taxpayers having to listen to “the little boy cry” about not doing what he said he would do, maybe more time, thought, and attention from him to the position of mayor of Marion would be the responsible thing to do on behalf of the citizens of the town.

After all, he was elected by the people to do a job, not to make self-deprecating excuses for his lack of promised professional actions.
