Correction

To the editor:

I am glad that the Record sent a reporter to cover the meeting of the Marion County Democrats. The story appeared in the Feb. 14 issue. Former superintendent John Fast had a fascinating tale of his dealings with the state in hearings to save small schools.

However, I want to make a small correction. I was quoted that I “introduced Fast to party members, spoke about current claims that smaller districts should be shut down, closing districts where population is less than 2000….”

This is not a current situation. I was telling a story about years ago, when a consolidation plan to close many schools was presented. But this is not the case now. Readers should not panic. I am not aware of any current consolidation plans.

Having said that, it was a very interesting meeting in which attendees learned a lot about the workings of state government. And we do need to be alert to bills that are being proposed that would affect the lives of our citizens.
