Electoral College

To the editor:

I read your editorial on the Electoral College. Just so you know, the system definitely isn’t perfect, as one can be elected president by winning the 11 most populated states out of our 50 plus the District of Columbia.

The right 11 states won by a candidate will give them the necessary 270 electoral votes needed to become president. That candidate could lose the other 39 states plus D.C. and still be our president.

To me, the electoral system is not much better than the popular vote as it is flawed and needs to be changed some way to make all states more accountable.

If candidate A wins California, Texas, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, and New Jersey, he or she will have 270 electoral votes.

If candidate B wins the other 39 states plus D.C. he or she will only get 268 electoral votes. So it can happen that we elect a very unpopular president in this circumstance.
