Voting for the future

To the editor:

There is no doubt that this year’s presidential election will decide the direction of this country’s soul.

There is much at stake. The positions of the two major parties’ platforms and agendas have never been so polarizing.

Regardless of the actual candidates, the positions of the winner will be in line with the party to which he or she is affiliated. Therefore, the person you or I vote for and the party they represent will have consequences.

Why am I writing this? Driving through my hometown of Peabody, I noticed a few presidential support signs on several lawns. What bothered me the most about the signs was the apparent position of the particular homeowners.

Not to be judgmental, but I would expect a believer and follower of Jesus Christ to support and vote for candidates and their respective party that most aligns with their beliefs.

Or will the residents of Peabody, Marion County, or our nation base their decisions solely on a candidate’s rhetoric, tone, style, or likeability? Does that describe your thinking process?

This is not a junior high or high school popularity contest. I will not be voting for the person — I’m voting for the platform!

I will be voting for the Second Amendment, the next Supreme Court justice, the electoral college, and for the republic where we live. I will be voting for the police and law and order, the military and the veterans who fought and died for this country, the flag that is often missing from public events, and voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored for it. I will be voting for secure borders, the right to praise God without fear, and for every unborn soul that is at risk of being aborted.

I’m voting for the future of my country!

With all respect, this election isn’t about you and it certainly isn’t about me and how I feel about any particular candidate.

This vote has awesome implications for future generations and the nation we love. It is about our Constitution and the immutable, God-given rights it protects. It is about values, and truth, and greatness, and hope.

That is why the notion of choosing a president or any federal, state, or local candidate based on frivolous personality characteristics is so unfortunate.
